Oakland Maroons Art Collective (OMAC) is an organization of Black culture workers intent on re-inscribing the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance, Negritude, the Black Arts Movement and Africentricity for the 21st century. We are visual artists, writers, musicians and performers who have a commitment to African Centered philosophies that re-inscribe the Black Aesthetic in the 21st century.
Our goal in the Oakland Maroons Art Collective is a radical populist art accompanied by radical populist critical theory.
The Oakland Maroons Art Collective exists as the culmination of a cultural continuity that underlines and reinscribes Black/Afrikan aesthetics and ontology through visionary, futurist, populist and radical art. Art the verb in its Afrikan sense. We recognize that in Afrikan societies there is no separation between the sacred and the secular. In Afrikan ways of being everything is sacred and therefore our art actions are sacred ritual with radical Pan-Africanist intentions that we use to serve our community. We engineer Blackness and navigate the Afriscape with the ritual technology that we call art. We are African centered; Pan-Africanist, and Advanced Black Revolutionary Cultural Nationalists exploring the imagination in order to relentlessly seek Blacker expressions pulled from the Dark matter surrounding us. We are in constant dialogue with our ancestors. Our art is an expression of the Blacker beings that inhabit our flesh.
